Solicitors acting on behalf of the Save Our Children’s Centres Hampshire campaign have written to the local authority saying they will proceed with legal action unless the council withdraws its current consultation on proposed cuts to Sure Start centres.
The campaign group claims that by agreeing to a £6m cut to the Sure Start budget and paving the way for other providers to run the centres, the council's consultation is "disingenuous".
Hampshire is currently seeking views on whether up to 28 Sure Start centres should be merged with other centres in the county and whether the council should transfer its management of some of the centres to third parties.
