Lancashire services join forces to reduce young runaways

1 min read Social Care
Children's services professionals in Lancashire have overhauled their approach to dealing with young runaways, as part of a drive to reduce the number of under-18s who go missing from home.

Agencies across the region, including the police and voluntary organisations, have signed up to follow a joint protocol that outlines best practice on working with young runaways.

The code of practice, which was developed in partnership with the Children's Society, includes guidance on how to spot the triggers that cause children to runaway.

It sets out how agencies should share information to help keep missing children safe and bring them home quickly and includes separate guidance for dealing with children living at home and those in care.

It also covers how to conduct interviews with young runaways, and plan appropriate interventions, to reduce the risk of them running away multiple times.
