#KeepCaringto18: Campaign for outright ban on unregulated accommodation heads to Downing Street

A delegation of care-experienced adults will deliver a petition to 10 Downing Street calling for a ban on unregulated supported accommodation to be extended to cover all children.

The petition, signed by 10,500 care-experienced adults and young people, social workers, foster carers and others working in the sector, calls on recent changes to legislation banning the use of such settings for children aged under-16 to be changed to cover those up to the age of 18.

Secondary legislation came into force last September to stop councils putting children in care into properties without any carers or consistent supervision, sparking concern across the sector.

Campaigners described the government’s refusal to extend the ban before it came into force as a “dreadful day” for children in care.
