The public services watchdog interviewed schools, parents, pupils,councils and community and voluntary organisations in 12 highly deprivedareas across England during the summer and autumn of 2005.
It found that Every Child Matters was driving closer cross-boundaryworking for children and young people in health, social care andeducation. But it criticised the "limited strategic engagement" betweenschools and services on key matters of mutual interest outside thoseareas, including housing, leisure and youth offending.
Education learning charity ContinYou seized on the report. A spokeswomansaid it highlighted the potential for local authorities and theirpartners to support schools but expressed concern that "many of theseopportunities are currently being missed, with children and familieslosers as a result".
