A Freedom of Information (FOI) request, sent by the Fostering Network to local authorities and children’s trusts across the UK, found that some foster carers are receiving £732 more per week than others, a difference of £38,000 per year.

The organisation’s new report Out of Pocket: Fairer Fees for Foster Carers shows that almost half of fostering services are providing between £100-200 per week for families, equating to an annual income of £5,200 - £10,400 per year.

It explains that foster carers are currently remunerated in different ways, receiving a weekly fostering allowance, which is intended to cover all costs related to child directly, such as clothes, food, and hobbies.
