1 min read
The Integrated Qualifications Framework could leave childcare workers confused about the status of their qualifications and worried they have to take degrees to keep their jobs.

That's the warning from the Professional Association of Nursery Nurses(Pann) as the Children's Workforce Development Council released newguidance on the framework last week.

The framework, due to come into effect by 2010, will provide acomprehensive set of qualifications appropriate for people who work withchildren and families, including degrees and professionalqualifications.

According to the council, qualifications included in the framework, suchas the Early Years Foundation Stage Level 3 Certificate, will be "fitfor purpose" and make it easier for people to move from one post toanother. The framework is also aimed at reducing the number anddifferent types of qualifications that currently exist.

Jane Haywood, chief executive of the council, said: "The framework willbring much-needed changes into the sector including opening up careeropportunities and making the complex system of qualifications easier tounderstand."
