Inspectors say support for vulnerable young children in the London borough is blighted by delays and failures to understand risks they face.

Following their visit in October and November this year inspectors have handed the department a rating of "requires improvement to be good" overall, the same as their previous inspection in January and February 2018.

During their recent visit it emerged that while initial work by social workers to protect children at risk “is prompt”, there are “long delays in making court applications”.

This means children “are not made safe quickly enough”, say inspectors.

Concerns are also raised that “too few children who go missing receive effective follow-up interviews" to “understand and address the risk to them”.
