Inspection skills qualification launches for youth offending inspectors

Inspectors visiting youth offending services are to be offered the chance to qualify for a newly created qualification in inspection skills.

The certificate is being awarded to HM Inspectorate of Probation inspectors and assistant inspectors and has been approved by Ofqual regulated body SFJ Awards.

This is the first time the inspectorate has offered inspection staff and secondees a certificate to recognise inspection skills.

It is being handed out to those who complete a one-year course for inspectors during their work and includes on the job observation, carried out by inspectorate assessors, and the completion of a portfolio of their work. This is quality checked internally as well as externally by SFJ Awards.

“The programme equips inspectors with the necessary skills and experience to undertake high-quality inspections,” said the inspectorate.
