The Home Secretary has praised the work of a south London youth project working with young people involved in gangs and crime.

The X-it programme, which is based in Lambeth, uses youth work techniques to engage young people, and includes a residential element and leadership training.
Jacqui Smith has visited the scheme. She said: "I am pleased to see such positive action being taken to tackle gang culture, particularly when the action is led by the young people themselves."
