Home safety scheme for disadvantaged children

1 min read Early Years Health
An 18 million pound home safety equipment scheme has been launched to reduce accidental deaths and injuries among under-fives in disadvantaged areas.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has been contracted by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to design a scheme that will help parents across England make their homes safer.

The two-year programme, flagged up in the Children's Plan, will see RoSPA sourcing and distributing safety equipment, such as fireguards, gates and window locks, through existing local home safety schemes and new initiatives. It will also give parents information to help them understand the causes of home accidents and the steps required to prevent them.

Throughout the campaign, RoSPA will work with early years partners including children's centres, early education providers, primary care trusts and local authorities.
