1 min read
Gloucestershire County Council is to lobby the Government for better monitoring of children educated at home.

The move follows the case of Goucestershire resident Eunice Spry who wasjailed for abusing her foster children, whom she had removed from schoolfor home tuition.

Jo Davidson, group director of children and young people's services atthe council, said: "One of the issues we have real concerns about inthis case is the levels of safeguarding for children educated at home.People should have the right to educate children at home, as long asthey are safe.

"We will be lobbying the Government to improve monitoring so it's clearthe same expectation is on children educated at home; they should beeducated safely and achieve the five outcomes."

The council has also made several changes since the abuse, which tookplace over 20 years, came to light. These include child protectiontraining for more than 1,500 staff and an independent reviewing officerbeing assigned to every child in care.
