Health services urged to take on child-friendly award scheme

1 min read Health
The Department of Health (DoH) has ramped up efforts to encourage health services to implement the You're Welcome award scheme, which praises the achievements of the best child health services.

According to latest figures from the government’s child health map only a quarter of services are implementing the key criteria of the award scheme.

To persuade more to take part the DoH has unveiled guidance, focusing on eight themes for all health services to aspire to. This includes ensuring services are accessible to young people and well promoted.

Services and clinics also need to be "young people friendly" and welcoming, while staff must receive training in dealing with young people’s specific health needs.

The updated criteria also focus on the importance of a smooth transition for young patients between children’s and adult health services.
