The finding follows a push by child and adolescent mental healthservices (CAMHS) to meet targets on providing around-the-clock or nextday cover and emergency assessment. Recent figures show 97 per cent ofservices say they have now met the target (Children Now, 22-28March).
But research by the Thomas Coram Research Foundation and the Instituteof Education, published last week, found CAMHS managers have developedservices without knowing whether they are meeting local demand or not. Asurvey conducted as part of the research found only a quarter of CAMHSproviders knew how many young people were using their service and justone in eight had numbers for out-of-hours cover.
