Guidance on safeguarding disabled children is updated

1 min read Health Social Care
The government has updated guidance for police, teachers, health workers and social workers to protect disabled children from abuse and neglect.

The guidance has been produced by The Children's Society and will advise local safeguarding children boards (LSCBs) and their relevant partners on how best to safeguard and promote the welfare of disabled children. It is intended to be used in line with the 2006 publication Working Together to Safeguard Children.

Children's minister Delyth Morgan said: "The abuse of disabled children is too often overlooked or simply denied. In order to raise awareness of this abuse, attitudes and assumptions regarding the rights of disabled children must be challenged. I urge all agencies to look again at this issue and use this guidance to make sure they are doing everything they can in their local area."
