Earlier this week, CYP Now reported that Mike Wardle, chief executive of the General Social Care Council, had been suspended after the government had been alerted to a backlog of misconduct cases.
Although the backlog of 200 cases has now been reviewed (resulting in the suspension of some social workers), Wardle will remain suspended while the council investigates how the problem arose.
Kim Bromley-Derry, ADCS president, said the local authorities whose employees were the subject of unreviewed complaints had been notified.
He said: "Where the safety of vulnerable children is at stake, a confident, competent and trusted workforce is of the highest priority. A robust registration and regulatory system that deals with complaints in a timely and risk-based fashion is vital in ensuring that this is the case.
