A report published last week by the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE) severely criticised the GSCC's handling of misconduct cases after a backlog was identified in the summer.
Rosie Varley, chair of the GSCC, said the organisation is now looking to recruit a new chief executive and three new directors.
She added that the focus will be to build on the work of the interim management team by strengthening public protection.
"The new team will come into an organisation with greater clarity of purpose, where public protection is at the heart of our work.
"We are also looking at how we can continue to raise standards in the sector by strengthening social work training, and holding the profession to account for competence as well as conduct."
