Green technology scheme launches for young people

1 min read Youth Work Mentoring Participation
A funding programme for young people to develop ideas to use digital technology to improve the environment has been launched by a youth charity.

??Delivered by O2's Think Big in partnership with the National Youth Agency (NYA), The Environment Now programme will provide 17- to 24-year-olds with funding to create digital ideas that can help tackle environmental issues.?

?Earlier this year, it was announced that the NYA was among 31 youth organisations that would receive around £1m each through the Big Lottery Fund's Our Bright Future programme, which is run by a consortium of eight environmental organisations.??

??The Environment Now programme will see 50 projects run by young people receive funding of up to £10,000 each, with support provided over two years to develop their ideas, confidence and skills to become "sustainability leaders" of the future.
?
The remaining money will cover a team of advisers and youth workers to support the young people, a three-year programme of events, workshops and sessions across the UK to encourage young people to apply to the programme, and a three-year evaluation programme. ??

Catherine Bishop, director of programmes at the NYA, said: "This new programme is a really exciting mix - bringing together the dynamic creativity of young people, their innovation with digital tech and the imperative of a sustainable environment."

?Bill Eyres, head of sustainability at O2, added: ??"With young people having the passion to make change, it's extremely important that we back them by giving them the tools to develop solutions, and the confidence to become the sustainability leaders of the future."??
