Government won't pay parents or carers

The Government has reiterated that it will not pay parents and carers of disabled children for attending important meetings regarding inclusion, amid complaints from Local Authorities that they cannot afford the time to attend and are effectively being 'consulted out'.

Speaking at the Inclusion into Practice conference in London last week, Hardip Begol – Deputy Director, Special Educational Needs and Disability Division, DCSF – responded by accusing LAs of exacerbating the problem - consulting parents in a “piece meal way” instead of getting them all together at once.

“We’re making sure up and down the country that parent’s forums are in place, and I hope that parents will see that when they’re asked their view things do actually change”, said Begol.
