The Government said in last summer's Youth Crime Action Plan that it would ensure the majority of schools signed up to Safer School Partnerships (SSPs). Currently 5,000 schools are involved.
Children's Secretary Ed Balls said: "Some schools are concerned the police presence will reflect that a school has problems with crime. My experience is quite the contrary - SSPs show schools are on top of the problem. We need to do more to help schools understand the value of SSPs and the conferences will help them to do this by giving examples of areas where SSPs work well."
The conferences, which will take place this month and next month across England, aim to tackle local concerns, are aimed at head teachers, police, local authority staff, youth workers, third sector organisations and trade union representatives. For more information call 0115 943 5583.
