Government urged to raise cap on childcare vouchers

The government is being urged to raise the weekly childcare voucher allowance from £55 to £75 following the launch of a campaign by a nursery provider.

Busy Bees' Mind the Gap – Raise the Cap campaign is calling on the government to raise the voucher allowance because the nursery chain believes parents are struggling to meet the costs of childcare.

The provider said offering employee benefits such as childcare vouchers can save money for both businesses and working parents, and helps to motivate staff and improve retention of parents.

John Woodward, managing director of the Busy Bees Group, said: "The cap allowance was set by the government at £55 per week and this has not changed since 2006.

“We feel the government should do much more for working parents to help with childcare costs, however, we must be realistic.
