Of the sum, £12 million will be dedicated to carrying out the review's recommendations, which was led by John Bercow MP and called for greater support for children and young people with speech and language difficulties.
The cash will fund improved training for the children's workforce, research into how to improve outcomes for children with speech and language needs and a dedicated communication council to raise the profile of speech, language and communications problems.
The remaining £40 million is to fund the government's Every Child a Talker programme, launched by children's minister Beverley Hughes today, which will train early years staff to teach speaking and listening skills.
