Government invites parents to run children's centres

1 min read Early Years
Parents interested in helping run children's centres have been invited to submit their ideas to government, in a bid to encourage communities to get involved in the planning and delivery of early years provision.

The Department for Education has published a discussion paper about the merits of community-run children’s centres, in which it asks parents to get in touch with government if they want to get more involved in, or even take over the running of, local centres.

The government is also looking for an organisation to provide advice and support, to help a small number of parent-led groups to develop and test their proposals.

Children’s minister Sarah Teather said a "strong and effective national network" of children's centres should be "at the heart of community life".

“I want to make sure they are delivering the best service possible to their local community," she said.

"That’s why we want to hear views and new ideas on how parents and communities can help run children's centres. I believe this will give local people more control and influence over the services they use.
