Government fails to tackle health inequalities say MPs

1 min read Health
The government is failing to tackle health inequalities affecting children and young people, a committee of MPs has found.

The House of Commons' Health Committee said the government should have been more careful in designing and piloting health projects in England.

The committee:

* raised concerns that Sure Start programmes are being ‘colonised' by the middle classes, who enjoy the cheap, high quality childcare they offer

* found that the number of health visitors are falling at the same time as the Government reiterates its commitment to early-years' services

* heard evidence that not enough dinner ladies are being trained as part of a £650million bid to improve school meals

* reported that the impact of the Healthy Schools Programme on health or health inequalities has not been assessed
