The Youth Justice Board (YJB) is to be reviewed for the third time in as many years, the government has announced.

Announcing the move in parliament, youth justice minister Jeremy Wright said the review will consider whether there is still a need for the YJB to carry out each of its functions in their current form.

He said it will take into account the evidence gathered in previous reviews “where still relevant”.

A consultation will be held until 15 February, with a report due to be presented to MPs in parliament before the summer recess.

The review comes little more than a year after plans to scrap the YJB as part of the Public Bodies Bill – following a review of the organisation – were shelved due to strong opposition to the move.
