Foster carers to receive full disclosure of child's background

1 min read Social Care
The government is ordering councils to give foster carers full disclosure of information about children being taken into their care.

Children's minister Delyth Morgan has written to all children's services directors highlighting the importance of full disclosure in terms of foster carers' safety and in reducing placement breakdown.

Morgan said: "We want foster carers to be confident in their ability to support these children and they can only do that when they have the full picture of the child's background."

The move follows a survey by the Fostering Network in May that found that more than half of foster carers had not been given all the information needed to ensure the safety of a child in their care. A third had not been told about medical requirements and around a half had not been informed that a child had been abused.
