In response to the news, the Fostering Network has urged the council to rethink its plans.
Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the charity, said: "We are extremely concerned about Slough’s proposals to significantly reduce the payments it makes to its foster carers, and have written to the council urging them not to take this action. While we appreciate local authorities are under increasing financial pressure, this is incredibly unfair, particularly for their current foster carers and the children they look after.
"Foster carers do not and should not foster for the money. However, like us all, they need to bring in an income for their families while they devote their lives to care for vulnerable children and young people. By reducing their fees, Slough is placing its foster carers in an impossible position and we imagine some may be unable to honour the commitment they have made to the children in their care."
