Statistics revealed in a parliamentary answer to the Conservative Party’s shadow home secretary Dominic Grieve have revealed that the number of penalty notices issued to women in that age group increased from 1,853 in 2004 to 3,561 in 2006.
This is an increase of 92 per cent, far larger that the increase of 67 per cent among men in the same age group during the same period.
Grieve described the figures as an “alarming symptom of our broken society.”
“Conservatives would target the irresponsible retailers of alcohol who sell to underage and drunk people, as well as looking at tackling the sale of recklessly cheap alcohol,” he said.
