Family court judgements available to public

1 min read Social Care
Family court judgements will be made available in full to the public for the first time from this week.

The move is part of a pilot to encourage openness in the family courts and follows the opening up of proceedings to the media in April this year.

The year-long pilot launches in courts in Leeds and Cardiff this week and involves the publishing of judgements online. Any details relating to the identity of the families will be removed, the Ministry of Justice has pledged.

In addition, families involved in the cases will receive copies of the judgement and the pilot will also involve retaining copies of judgements for younger children involved, to read when they are older.
