Edlington torture brothers refused permission to appeal sentence

1 min read Youth Justice
Two young brothers who were convicted for torturing two boys in South Yorkshire last year have been refused permission to appeal against their sentences.

The brothers from Edlington, who were aged 10 and 11 at the time of the attack, were detained indefinitely in January and were told they had to serve a minimum sentence of five years, for the serious assault against two boys aged nine and 11 in April last year.

The Court of Appeal in London today rejected the brothers' application for permission to appeal.

Doncaster was heavily criticised for its handling of the case of the brothers in an unannounced Ofsted report published earlier this year and a serious case review into the incident revealed serious failings by social care services and partner agencies.
