
Ofsted’s Annual Accounts and Reports 2013/14 shows that the inspectorate dealt with a total of 1,809 complaints about staff conduct, administrative issues and inspection judgments, of which 1,197 (66 per cent) were made by early years providers.
Of the remaining complaints, 475 (26 per cent) were made by schools; 97 (five per cent) by social care settings; 21 (one per cent) by further education (FE) institutions; 18 (0.9 per cent) by independent schools; and one (0.05 per cent) by an independent teacher education setting.
The report also shows that Ofsted was unable to resolve 327 complaints, which were then escalated to an internal inquiry – 236 (72 per cent) of which were brought by early years providers.
