The watchdog now gives services across the care sector grades between one and six, with six being the highest, for their quality of care, information giving, staffing and management.
Early findings released by the Commission show that around one in three of the 2,000 childminders who have been graded achieved the top marks of either five or six in all categories. Only 0.5 per cent were graded with all ones and twos.
In England Ofsted revealed earlier this year that the number of childminders providing good or outstanding childcare had dropped between 2005 and 2008, and the level of inadequate childminding rose from two to six per cent.
