Speaking at the annual youth justice convention in Brighton, Home Office minister Lord Henley outlined details of how the ending gang violence team, launching this month, will operate.
It will involve a "virtual network" of more than 100 expert advisers able to provide practical advice and support to other areas. It will also include experts from a range of backgrounds, including community activists, experts in child and adolescent mental health, safeguarding specialists and police officers.
"Drawing on this network of expertise, the team will offer intensive support to gang-affected areas to understand their problems, design an operating model to address the issues and help the areas check whether what they are trying to do is happening," he said.
