Half of young people concerned about career prospects, nearly 200 child sexual exploitation investigations under way in South Yorkshire, and study finds one in five parents favour wealth over happiness for their children, all in the news today.

More than half of young people are concerned about their employment prospects a study has found. A survey of 2,000 young people carried out by Action for Children found that 53 per cent were "nervous" about their future prospects. One in seven (15 per cent) said they fear they will never have the career they want, with 41 per cent citing not having the right skills, experience or training as the most common reason.

There are more than 190 live investigations into child sexual exploitation under way by detectives in South Yorkshire it has emerged. According to the Rotherham Star, there are 57 cases under investigation in Doncaster, 50 in Rotherham, 48 in Sheffield and 38 being carried out in Barnsley. Figures released by South Yorkshire Police have revealed people have contacted the force with concerns about child abuse 743 times in the last 12 months.

One in five parents believe that it is more important for their child to be "successful and wealthy" than "happy and healthy" when they reach adulthood. A study of 2,000 parents with children between the ages of four and 18, commissioned by the Military Preperation College, found that mothers wanted top exam results but fathers worried more about happiness, the Daily Mail reports.

The number of webpages found with child sexual abuse images increased by 137 per cent last year, according to UK watchdog the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF). ITV News reports the watchdog removed 31,266 pages in 2014 because they were hosting videos and images of children being sexually abused, compared with 13,182 the year before.

A project that protects children in Dorset from sexual harm has been given a funding boost of £11,000. According to the Dorset Echo, the police and crime commissioner for the area has given the grant to Circles South West to continue its work rehabilitating offenders.
