Scientists call for asthma screening; health visitor accused of leaving children at risk of neglect; and two children a week deemed at risk of abduction or CSE in Lancashire, all in the news today.

Screening children with asthma for a common gene change could determine the best treatment for individuals and help prevent asthma attacks. The Scotsman reports that children with the gene change are 50 per cent more likely to suffer an attack when on a standard treatment plan, according to scientists.


A health visitor left children at risk after failing to spot signs of potential neglect, a court has heard. The BBC reports that Lysanda Wajsowicz faces nine allegations, including one case of inaction where parents were later arrested on suspicion of neglect.


More than two children a week are identified as being at risk of abduction or child sexual exploitation in Lancashire, according to figures released by police. The Lancaster Guardian reports that police issued 140 child abduction notices to adults believed to be forming inappropriate relationships with children in 2014/15.  


Sunday schools could be banned from teaching to children that marriage should be between a male and a female, Conservative MPs have warned. The Telegraph reports that the ban comes under new proposals to make Sunday schools undergo regular Ofsted inspections.  


A state-of-the-art youth centre that was approved by Wirral Council last year has secured backing from an engineering firm, which will help with the estimated £1m running costs. The Wirral Globe reports the Hive Youth Zone, which is run by youth charity OnSide, has received support from Boulting Group, which will provide £75,000 over three years.
