Crackdown on youth violence yields shotgun and 23 knives

1 min read Youth Justice
A six-week crackdown on youth violence has led to the recovery of 23 knives, one shotgun and more than 700 arrests, the Home Office has announced.

As part of the Tackling Knives and Serious Youth Violence Action Programme (TKAP) nine intensive operations took place in targeted areas involving police, social services, youth workers and immigration staff.

Between February and March street-based teams engaged with young people, directing them to positive activities and taking young people at risk of significant harm to safe locations. In the evenings, police focused on alcohol-related crime — targeting those causing trouble as well as irresponsible bars and clubs.

Home Office minister David Hanson said: "I am really pleased by the success of these operations and I want to congratulate the police and their partner organisations on their hard work."
