
The recommendation comes as part of the government’s early years advisor’s review; The best start for life: a vision for the 1,001 critical days.
As part of the review, commissioned by Boris Johnson last year, the MP for South Northamptonshire highlights inequalities in outcomes for babies born in low socio-economic areas.
“Children living in households in the lowest socio-economic groups have significantly worse health outcomes than other children. These can be caused by stress and smoking in pregnancy, as well as communication problems due to language inequalities,” Leadsom says.
In a bid to tackle inequality and provide all babies with “the best start in life”, Leadsom is calling on all local authorities to publish a clear Start for Life offer for parents in their area.
