
Following an inspection in July, inspectors found that since a previous inspection in 2019 which saw Swindon Council rated “good” overall, there has been “a significant deterioration in the quality and impact of services for children”.
Ofsted’s latest report states: “Too many children are left with unassessed needs and risks and plans that drift, and they experience too many changes of social worker.”
It adds that “children are not matched with permanent carers quickly enough”.
However, the inspectorate has praised “pockets of strong practice” including work with disabled children and those who are privately fostered as well as through the council’s virtual school.
