Council agrees £750,000 'admission fee' to join children's services mutual

A council has agreed to pay £750,000 to become the third member of a social enterprise established to run children's services in two London boroughs.

Achieving for Children was formed in April 2014 to run children's services in the neighbouring London boroughs of Kingston and Richmond.

In September 2016 The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council confirmed that it intended to hand over responsibility for its children's services to the organisation by April 2017. Its children's services are currently rated "requires improvement" by Ofsted following an inspection in March 2015.

Council documents giving an update on the process reveal that the council has agreed to pay a fee of £750,000 to join the organisation, with the transfer date now delayed until August in order to allow the decision to be formally rubber-stamped by politicians in Kingston and Richmond.
