Half of childminders unable to work during pandemic

Just 50 per cent of childminders have been able to continue working during the pandemic, a new study shows.

The report by childcare provider platform Yoopies into the impact of the crisis on the childcare sector shows that of those working, just 78.9 per cent of childminders had worked for their full wage, 18.7 per cent received discounted pay and the remainder had worked for free. 

Of those still able to work, 46.1 per cent of 425 childminders polled said they had been working for families where one parent is a key worker and 42.6 per cent had been working for families where both parents are key workers. Some 5.8 per cent had been working for non-essential workers, the study shows while the remainder answered “other”.
