Reports of abuse rise during lockdown

The NSPCC had said it is “increasingly concerned” about the number of children suffering abuse and neglect during lockdown.

Last week, the organisation’s Childline service delivered 363 counselling sessions where children had experienced physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect – almost a fifth more than in the previous week.

Men urged to support early years

Men in the Early Years (Mitey) has launched a new campaign calling on men to retrain and take up jobs in childcare to help the sector bounce back following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mitey said: “Our message to men is this: you CAN be the caregivers and educators, and the early years sector needs you. It may not pay the highest salaries, but if there’s one thing this crisis is teaching us, it’s that there’s more to life than money.
