Outlined in a document entitled Responsible Business, published yesterday, the Tories have set out plans to ban any company found by the Advertising Standards Agency to be in breach of rules governing marketing to children from bidding for government advertising contracts.
If the party comes into power, it also plans to ban viral advertising and social networking sites to target children.
Proposals also include allowing headteachers and governors to ban advertising and vending machines in schools.
According to the Conservatives, the government's 'Buckingham Review' on children and advertising highlighted the problem of new marketing techniques targeted at children, but did not address them.
