Unicef's Child Poverty in Perspective Report, launched in collaborationwith The Children's Society, compared children's wellbeing in 21European and North American nations.
Researchers examined six aspects of children's wellbeing includingeducation, material wellbeing, health, and family and peerrelationships.
The UK performed badly in all areas apart from health, where it wasrated the twelfth best nation in the survey. It came last on both familyand peer relationships and behaviour and risks. Overall the UK rankedbottom of the list. The Netherlands topped the table.
Bob Reitemeier, chief executive of The Children's Society, said: "Thesefindings are a massive wake-up call. If anyone doubted the need toimprove children's wellbeing in the UK, this should make them thinkagain."
