Figures released by the Local Government Association show that shared services have delivered £942.1m of cumulative savings for local government but little of that originates in children's services partnerships between councils.
The figures, which represent cumulative savings up to 2018, show that £6.6m of savings have been accrued from shared provision in children's services, equivalent to just 0.7 per cent of total savings. This is despite children's services being responsible for nine per cent of total local government spending. The savings were made across 16 shared children's services.
Almost all of the reported savings originate with Achieving for Children, the community interest company formed to operate children's services in the London boroughs of Richmond and Kingston. It told the LGA it has delivered £6m of savings in the past three years.
