Called Get Fair, the groups involved include One Parent Families/Gingerbread, Save the Children and children 1st.
An official launch is planned for September but work is already underway to lobby political party officials. The focus is on combating all forms of poverty, including that affecting pensioners and children.
Niall Cooper, co-ordinator of Church Action on Poverty, another of the groups involved, said: "A focus is the forthcoming party manifestos. These are coming out either next year or 2010 and we want to make sure that tackling poverty is high on the agenda of all parties."
Activity will include an online petition targeting local MPs. The Get Fair campaign is also supporting the End Child Poverty campaign, which is organising a rally in London on 4 October.
