The recommendation comes in Ofsted's children's rights director's report Future Care, which sums up the views of 686 children and young people in care. The report, published this week, aims to influence the national minimum standards, which set out the rules for looking after children in care and are currently under review.
Roger Morgan, children's rights director for England, said: "There wasn't a lot of detail on the internet in the existing standards, but now net safety is very high profile and children and young people want caring adults to maintain a high profile of supervision."
The report showed that 45 per cent of children and young people want adult supervision online. Other recommendations include police checks on new staff before they can start caring for children, regardless of staff shortages, and the right for children and young people to call Ofsted about concerns that they want an inspector to investigate.
