Childcare ratios: ‘No date planned’ for publication of DfE response to consultation

A spokesperson for the Department for Education today (12 October) told CYP Now that a date was “not yet confirmed” for the government to share next steps on the proposals which have sparked concern across the sector.

Responding to the consultation, leaders warned plans to reduce staffing ratios for two-year-olds from 1:4 to 1:5 in a bid to cut costs for parents could be “catastrophic” for providers.

However, reports in the Daily Mail, after the consultation closed last month, suggested that Prime Minister Liz Truss is also looking at plans to scrap ratios altogether and is examining plans to hand funding used for funded childcare places directly to parents.
