2 mins read Early Years
Around a fifth of childcare providers have reported that their biggest financial concern is parents who are unable to afford fees, according to a government-commissioned survey.

The Childcare Provider Finances Survey examined topics including providers’ overheads, areas most in need of investment and profitability, in a poll of more than 1,200 childcare providers.

Among childminders, insufficient demand for places (22 per cent) and parents inability to afford fees (21 per cent) were the most frequently mentioned concerns.

In other daycare settings demand for places was cited by a quarter of respondents, followed by the cost of employing staff (18 per cent) and parents who were unable to afford fees (17 per cent).

Despite this, since January 2010, 60 per cent of childminders and a third of daycare settings have frozen their fees to parents.
