1 min read
Government moves to extend free nursery provision face opposition from nearly two-thirds of private and voluntary providers, a survey due out next week will suggest.

A yet-to-be-published poll by the National Day Nurseries Association(NDNA) found that 64 per cent of nurseries are concerned about the freeearly years entitlement being extended to 15 hours a week in 2010. And69 per cent are worried about the possibility of it being made availableto all two-year-olds.

The association surveyed more than 250 childcare services acrossEngland, most of which were private or voluntary day nurseries. Theassociation was still collating the results as Children Now went topress, but a source said that there were "some interesting emergingtrends". The full report is due to be published on 14 December and isexpected to show that cash-strapped nurseries in London and the SouthEast will be hardest hit by the extension of the free early yearsentitlement.
