The call follows the launch of the eagerly awaited consultation on thenew early years foundation stage, which brings together three existingframeworks for early education and care and has been widely welcomed byprofessionals. It will come into force in September 2008.
But it is feared that some childcare providers may not have equal accessto training and support to offer the foundation stage. Steve Alexander,chief executive of the Pre-School Learning Alliance, said he was worriedgovernment childcare initiatives were biased towards full day care.
"One of the big risks is that sessional care is marginalised or viewedas secondary to full day care," he said. "But many parents will choosesessional care."
