Child survivors of sexual abuse waiting six months for support, research finds

The research found that waiting times for services for children who have been sexually abused have more than doubled since 2015.

For one in nine support services waiting lists for help extend to over a year.

Support services are reporting that such long waits for help is harming survivors’ mental health, education and relationships.

The survey has been carried out by the Centre Of Expertise On Child Sexual Abuse and looked at provision for both children and adults who have been impacted by child sexual abuse.

It found that across England and Wales there are only 468 services providing specialist support to survivors.
